How to turn jeans into a skirt step 3:

Next, turn the jeans over to the backside and use the seam ripper to make the seam to rip out more of the seam on the backside. This way the denim material will fold over easier and not make a lump over your bum when the skirt is complete.

This step is really important. Make sure that you have ripped the seam out at least an extra 3 inches.

How to turn jeans into a skirt step 4:

Now you are ready to use the extra fabric from the jeans legs that you cut off earlier. To do this insert the extra between the legs to turn it into a skirt.

I usually 'eye' this part.

I place the fabric into position under the legs on the back side of the skirt and pin it down.

When pinning the back, make sure that back seam is pinned down as well, so you don't have a 'whale-tail'.

How to turn jeans into a skirt step 6:

After getting the front and back of skirt pieced together and pinned, it is time to sew up your jean skirt with a simple straight stitch.

Remove all the pins and use your fabric scissors to cut the excess material out.

Trim any threads or imperfections that may bother you.

I personally like a raw edge for my denim skirts, so I do not fold over and sew a folded hem.

I only sew around the raw edge, so it does not fray too much.

Do you have an old pair of denim jeans that you wish were a skirt? As long as the jeans still fit in the waist and hips, you can turn a pair of denim pants into a cute DIY jeans skirt with a pair of scissors and some basic sewing skills

materials:

  • 1 pair of jeans that fit in the waist and hips still (it's ok if the knees are ripped or if they are the wrong length)
  • Sewing machine thread

steps:

  1. Use the seam ripper to remove the inside seam of the jeans on both pant legs.

  4. Unfold the jean legs you cut off earlier and lay them inside the pants, between the legs to make it skirt shaped.
  5. Place the fabric into position under the legs on the back side of the skirt and pin it down. When pinning the back, make sure that back seam is pinned down as well, so you don't have a 'whale-tail'.
